I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I shed a tear when Rega dropped the P2 from their turntable arsenal years ago. It was replaced with the RP1. Don't get me wrong, the RP1 is a great starter turntable and the best option in it's price class. Add the "upgrade kit" and you're at the price of a P2. What's it got that the RP1 doesn't? A lot! For another $230, the P2 has a classic Rega glass platter and a seriously good tonearm. The new RB220 tonearm takes off where the RB250 left off. I've seen $10K turntables using a RB250. See below? The head shell and tapered arm are one cast piece. This is essentially what put Rega on the map 40+ years ago. There aren't any pesky anti skate weights hanging off fishing line that you'll no doubt lose. Also, the pulley is metal, not plastic. It's a big step up. I still service thirty year old Planar 2's. Mostly, new 24v motor upgrades. Proof their owners keep them!
So here's what I'm gonna do!
Anyone who has purchased a RP1 (and wants to take it to the next level) will get $225 credit with your trade in towards ANY new Rega turntable. This will also enable people to get into a used RP1 at a discount.
THIS DEAL IS ONLY FOR MY CLIENTS!
I should have a few P2 in the next few weeks. If you'd like to place a pre order, it wouldn't be a bad idea. I think these will be a huge success. Again.

The new Rega Elicit-R is in and the Aria mm/mc phono pre amp is coming. For a VERY LIMITED time, I'm accepting your Brio-R as a trade in and giving 100% of it's original cost ($895) towards the Elicit-R ($2995)!! This gives you a chance to upgrade and will enable some people to experience the "gateway amp", Brio-R, at a reduced cost! It's a win win for everyone! Come on in and give it a listen! HERE'S A REVIEW!
Dupree have played and learned from the masters of the B3 trio art form. That's what they do. It's what they love to do. In clubs, to real people...most surprisingly, deep in the heart of Texas.
Just running down about 15 songs live in an afternoon...one or two takes at the most. Pick the good uns' and put 'em on wax.

to play the Blues! This is my 11 year old daughter Lily getting her blues on! She can chew gum AND play the drums at the same time! I'm a proud dad!
I ended up driving to the shipping warehouse in Round Rock to pick these bad boys up! I'm impatient and didn't want to wait another two days until they got a truck with a lift gate. I'm glad I did! These are the most unusual speakers I have owned. A complete different beast compared to your average speaker. When the power supplies and amp warm up... look out! Insane realism, resolution and low distortion. Not the best speaker for the Rock and Roll set, but if you are into acoustic and simply recorded music, you are in for a treat! I have another 289 hours of break in to go! Once they're settled in, I'll be having a Hootenanny!
A perfect match made in heaven! I decided to play wedding photographer. Here's a lovely shot of the Guru QM10-2 loudspeakers and the Heed Obelisk Si and X2 power supply. They look so nice, dontcha' think? I recently got the Heed Obelisk X2 power supply in to soup up the already excellent Si integrated. The X2 is heavy! I turned it on for a listen and powered down to move it and the light stayed on for HOURS! This thing holds some juice! It greatly improves the overall sound and even adds about 10 watts of power, turning the Si into 50 watts. There's an upgrade path onboard the Si. You can choose either a MM phono board or DAC. Who says your stereo has to be enormous and fugly? The next time your significant other gripes about not wanting an ugly stereo, show them this!
Coming Next Week!!
one magnetic monkey!
LM 218IA 22 watt per channel 845 SET. Driver tubes can be switched to adjust flavor. The options are 6V6, 6L6, 6550, EL34, KT88, 5881 etc. Remote control, adjustable bias using built in meter. 4 and 8 ohm output taps. All point to point wiring used throughout. Comes with a tube cage. $3500
Probably the best record I've ever found in a dollar record box. This record will blow minds and make you do exactly what it says... shake your rump! If you see a copy, pick it up! If you hate it, you have serious issues, like not knowing how to funk it up! The perfect fix to a sagging party.
Just picked up a nice used record called "Malvina". I was browsing the stacks at End Of An Ear and came across a peculiar looking record with an old lady on it. I flipped it over and read the songs. One caught my eye, "Little Boxes". I'm an avid Weeds fan and have the DVR set to "tape" each episode. The opening theme is "Little Boxes". I always liked it because it sums up every planned community in any city. I slapped it on one of the demo tables to make sure it was the same and it was. SCORE! The rest of the album is excellent, almost rockin'! Malvina was from San Francisco and hung with the likes of Pete Seeger. She even did some guest appearances on Sesame Street as "Kate". Her voice oddly reminds me of Victoria Williams. Malvina passed on in 1978.
I contacted Jad Fair from Half Japanese about doing a T-Shirt for me. This is the one I decided on. Keeping up with the original Jim Flora "trumpet man" theme. These should be available in a few weeks!
In the new Stereophile, Sam Tellig has written a nice review for Unison Research's Simply Italy integrated amp. Sam used Harbeth Compact 7 loudspeakers and a Rega Apollo CD player with excellent results. US importers, Colleen Cardas & Mark Phillips kindly dropped one off here at the shop for you lucky Austinites to check out. Why read about it when you can experience it? Come hear this stunning combo here at the shop!
It's F@#KING HOT!!!!! I love Texas, but it's been 100+ degrees now for a couple of months. Zero rainfall. Nada. My garden is burnt to a golden crisp. I need a break, my kids are about to kill each other. So, it's time for the annual road trip to Colorado! The shop will be closed Friday, July 22 through Tuesday, August 2. My cell might work if I'm unlucky. Seriously, it's cool to email me or send a text but the ringer will be off, as will the frontal lobe of my brain. I will check it now and then. I promise.
This is a picture of where I'll be. Don't be a hater..
Buy a Rega Brio-R and get 10% off any pair of Rega speakers PLUS a free 8 ft. pair of Chord Silver Screen speaker cables (unterminated) !!!
These cats are cooler than most DJ's who now use a computer. That's just LAZY! The whole point is to sound good and get people dancing. The 12 inch 45 was always a sure fire way to wake up a dance floor. Why? Bigger and deeper bass! Now it's usually terrible MP3's being manipulated with fake records so the "DJ" can scratch. Maybe if these hipsters hauled some records around, they wouldn't look so emaciated.
Now in the shop are the ridiculously inexpensive Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 ($349) & 10.3 ($649) loudspeakers. Wharfedale makes every single part in-house. These remind me of the Acoustic Energy Evo1 speakers about 10 years ago. Just a solid value speaker that sounds great. If you're on a budget, but still want the magic, the Diamond series are hard to beat.
Every so often someone walks in with an original Rega Planar 2 looking to unload it. I love these old tables because of the nice wood surround on the plinth and the fact that they can be rebuilt to current spec. I just got one in with the original S shaped arm that Rega used before developing their cast arms we all know and love.
I'm going to gut it and start over. New arm, 24v motor upgrade, TTPSU power supply, hub / inner platter, white belt, felt mat and TLC.
Here's your chance to own a one of a kind classic Rega table that is up to spec and basically brand new.
Price? $1095 with the RB251 arm or $1245 with the RB301 arm.
The Rega Brio-R's finally showed up today!!!!! A whole gaggle of 'em. I tore into the first one I could get my hands on and placed it next to it's soul mate, the DAC. Such a sweet couple they make! Rega RS-5's on the speaker end and Saturn acting as transport. I fired it all up with the new Sergent Garcia CD, Una y otra vez. Yup. The new Brio-R has BIG huevos. It has authori-tay! the 50 watts on board are more than enough for any speaker I can think of. I had it at about 10 o'clock and it was house party loud on the RS-5's. Basically, it's a Brio3 on a Viagra / steroid cocktail. I can only imagine what this thing will sound like after a few months of break in.
I'll have a couple left in Black after everyone picks up their pre ordered amps. The first shipment was small, but more are on a boat from the UK. Call me and claim one before you have to wait a few weeks...
Henry Qualls, from Elmo Texas, passed away in 2003. He was the last great undiscovered Texas Bluesman. There is a great article about him in this months Texas Music magazine.
Rega RP3 turntable.
The RP3 has been designed and engineered to achieve outstanding performance way beyond the expectations of a product at this price point. Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product which, if used correctly, will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting unnecessary gimmicks allows us to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately. The RP3 is fitted with a brand new hand assembled RB303 tonearm, precision main bearing and a low vibration low noise 24v motor assembly which is individually hand tuned to its circuit to further reduce vibration.
DB Technology (Double Brace Technology)
"Mass absorbs energy - lost energy equals lost music"! Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight rigid plinths. Clever use of lightweight particulate core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the foundations of the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic Planar turntable range. The RP3 takes this design philosophy to the next level. A super lightweight plinth combined with a phenolic resin double brace mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) forms a structurally sound "stressed beam" assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonances which will add unnatural distortions to the music. Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.
RB303 Tonearm - Making the best better
Designed using the latest 3D CAD & CAM technology the new RB303 is the culmination of more than 30 years of tonearm design experience. Due to advances in technology we have been able to fine tune the iconic RB300 tonearm design. Featuring a brand new tube with increased rigidity to the bearing housing, arm carrier and headshell coupled with intelligent redistribution of mass ensure this arm will exhibit fewer points of possible resonance. Extreme stability with almost friction free movement from the high precision bearing assemblies guarantee to gather more information from your vinyl than ever before. - Rega Website
Well.... I'm excited!! Looks like a great excuse to upgrade! Bring your old turntable in for a trade in!!
Led by Harold Moore, Jr. (age 10) & helped-out by his sisters, Vinita Marie (9), on bass and organ, Denise Marshall (7), on drums, and Jacqueln Carol (6), on waw-waw organ- Jr. and his Soulettes be one epic Kiddie Funk jam extravaganza. Legend says that approximately 300 copies of the 'original' 1970 issue of Psychodelic Sounds were pressed up but most were damaged (beyond saving) from being shrink wrapped on a meat packing machine.
You'll be listening to this one flat on your back screaming because these four kids were a lot cooler at the ages of 6, 7, 9 and 10 than you will ever be in your entire life... get it here

"Music Hall’s new USB-1 is a convenient, easy to use turntable. It’s a snap to set-up and comes with everything you need to start spinning vinyl. Whether you’re looking to digitize and download your record collection, release your inner DJ, or simply discover the joy of spinning vinyl, the USB-1 is your answer. It has a built-in phono preamp, cartridge, dust cover, and includes all necessary cables and software required for simple plug and play operation."
Proof that if I get enough requests for entry level USB turntables, I will provide. Now you can start spinning vinyl "on the cheap". I may get one of these for my daughter who's eight. Her Sesame Street table is totally shot! The fact that it has everything built in is sweet. Here's a great way to get your feet wet in the "vinyl resurgence" and still have some money left over for records!! Pair this up with the Aktimate and you'll have a full system for under $1K!
These are selling out before they're even built!! I'll have them in (hopefully) soon.
Leben "a motion sound"
The folks at Rega have been super busy! Rega's new Mains Lead (power cord in Amerispeak) $175. Got a amp, or CD player? Improve it's performance! The Rega Mains Lead blows away competition that's 3X the cost!
Rega's upgraded and improved upon "white belt" is no longer a limited edition and they lowered the price to $59. SERIOUS upgrade indeed! It's made of pure rubber and has much tighter tolerances than the standard belt. Rega says it will last longer than the standard black belt. For $20 more, it seems quite worth it. I just put them on my P9 which was long overdue for new belts and the difference was stunning! The bass tightened up and everything was more detailed. Got a P2 or better? Get a new belt! If you don't hear an improvement, I'll give you your money back!! PLEASE NOTE! There are after market Rega belts on the net... beware. Accept no substitute. You will get burned.
Coming Soon!! Rega DAC! I've been waiting 2 years for this! Housed in a newly designed half box. It will have plenty of inputs, filter selection and high rez 24/96 output! $995! Got a Apollo CD player you want to best the Saturn? Ready to make your computer sing? It's coming! Soon!
The highly awarded Leben CS300 integrated amp is now available for audition (along with it's big brother, the CS600). Hand made in Japan by Mr. Hyodo (from Luxman fame), point to point wiring, 12 watts, EL84 tubes. $2995. This is the kind of Hi-Fi product that actually goes up in value. You'll pass this one on to the kids, just like Grandpa did with his McIntosh...
That's right Y'all! I've been schlepping the Hi-Fi for 15 years now! I started off as a trunk slammer wiring McMansions. I had a dream and a living room which I turned into a home business. Lines like Rega and Naim had faith in me. I made the fatal mistake of signing a nasty lease for my first shop. Spent 3 years at the "School Of Hard Knocks" trapped in said lease. I figured out what brands play music and who the "good guys" are promoting / distributing them. So.........
Top 10 possible reasons I'm still in business:
1. Dumb Luck.
2. There ain't no shame in my game.
3. You'll get treated the same if you roll up in a Porshe or on a skateboard.
4. YOU!!! Thanks for your trust in doing business with me! It's appreciated.
5. I stock brands that I believe in and will still be in business in 15 years.
6. I own my space and am no longer raped by greedy landlords.
7. I love music and even play semi professionally.
8. I'm (sometimes painfully in a Larry David kind of way) honest.
9. Killer Customer Service!
10. I have a fully stocked bar at the shop and I like to share.
Roky played my favorite Pub!! It was insane and surreal! I love Austin!!!
I will be out of town from July 19 - August 5.  Maxing out the gas cards!  A Hot Springs tour of Colorado, Arches Park in Moab, Utah and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. Gotta get these precious family trips in before the kids are "Tweenies" and think I'm "totally uncool". ÂÂ
I will be checking my email, firstname.lastname@example.org and will have my cell phone. Please leave me a message and I will get back with you ASAP.
Summer also means my kids are not in school so my wife and I are bouncing them back and forth.  Should you roll up to the shop and I am not there, PLEASE CALL MY CELL  512-784-8282.  I'm probably close by and can be there in a few minutes... I may arrive in a wet swim suit.
It's always a great idea to make an appointment.
Y'all can't imagine how hard it is to find great gear that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. After years of being anti Chi-Fi, I've bit the bullet and have in Epos once again. Years ago I carried them and have always loved their sound. Now they're built in China, but WAIT! THEY DON'T SUCK! In fact I'm surprised to say the workmanship is A+. Nothing cheapened here. In fact, the packaging blew me away! Double boxed, banana plugs and floor spike protectors. Inner cloth bags, not plastic. DNM internal wiring. They arrived unscathed (a rarity). So, I'm starting to pay closer attention to the final product and not so much their origin. There is just no way getting around the fact that cheaper labor produces less expensive products. I was concerned about the factory and people working there so I asked the importer about the working conditions....
"The speakers are made by kids in china that don't know they are being abused and they usually die before they figure out what they are doing is fatal. The good news is some of the children have as many as 8 arms as result of birth defects caused by the factory dumping toxic chemicals into the local river the workers draw their drinking water from. The octo-armed kids are incredibly productive thus allowing us to make even more profit. Seriously, the speakers are basically hand made in an ISO9001/2 factory that has a superb reputation."
I LOVE a sick sense of humor, so I couldn't resist picking them up,,, again.
Now showing are the amazing $399 ELS3, the $1199 M12.2 and $1999 M16i
