Coming to the shop are the Micromega MY Range products! This (built in France) line consists of the MyAmp integrated / DAC w/ Bluetooth ($649), MyGroov ($299) mm / mc phono pre, MyZic ($299) headphone amp, MyDAC ($399) and MySpeakers ($495). This will be the new "entry level" at the shop.
I remember being around three years old and playing a stack of 45's my aunt left at our house. This was the one that started it all! I remember playing this over and over. It was WILD! It was FAST! It was ROCK & ROLL!! I still have this record and it's still my favorite.
Simply the best living songwriter...
In a parallel universe, Lady are bigger than Bieber and are played on the radio. This song is an ear worm! Enjoy!
Dave Madden, who played long-suffering band manager Reuben Kincaid on the '70s sitcom 'The Partridge Family,' has died from congestive heart and kidney failure. He was 82. I'm bummed. That was my all time favorite show as a kid (until The Six Million Dollar Man came out). He was the only one who could keep Danny in line!
Alejandro Escovedo curates and narrates a guided tour of the city’s artistic evolution through music along with special guests Lucinda Williams, Joe Ely, Butch Hancock, Terry Allen, Rosie Flores, The Hickoids and Roky Erickson.
Using photographs, songs and stories, Escovedo and friends take audiences on a journey chronicling everything that made Austin so distinctly Austin including the culture-fusing sounds of conjunto, the unmistakable tone of Janis Joplin, Dolores and the Bluebonnet Boys’ quaint country classic “The Austin Waltz,” and the venues that cultivated the talent that make up this rich musical city. No facet of the city’s kaleidoscopic music culture is left unexamined or unappreciated.
At its heart, The United Sounds of Austin is a testament to the cultural influence, harmony and beauty of this great city.
Bargain Bin Blasphemy! Thanks Steve Berry!
Managing Director Paul Stephenson launched our new DAC-V1 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today. The DAC-V1 is an asynchronous USB digital to analogue converter with multiple S/PDIF inputs, precision volume control and a headphone amplifier.
Computers are an increasingly popular source of music, but in isolation offer only a compromised sound and listening experience. Connect the DAC-V1 however and your computer can become a genuine high-quality, high-resolution music hub. Combined with its matching NAP 100 amplifier the DAC-V1 is a musical conduit that delivers Naim quality sound from your audio files. If you do most of your listening through headphones however, its highly capable headphone amplifier means you can avoid using a power amplifier and speakers altogether if you wish.
The DAC-V1 is a heaven sent for computer audiophiles and casual listeners alike. Connected to your PC, Mac or Laptop via a standard A to B USB cable it can play back audio files from iTunes, Windows Media player and other specialist audio applications in up to 24bit/384kHz resolution. You can check incoming bit rates from the front panel OLED display and perform bit perfect checks on your ripped music files. Multiple S/PDIF inputs mean it can also handle the sound from digital sources like your games console, set top box, DVD and CD players. Further demonstrating the flexibility of the DAC-V1, you can choose to combine it with the UnitiServe hard disk server and the new NAP 100 to create a compact three box hi-fi system.
Compact power - NAP 100
The NAP 100 is the perfect partner for the DAC-V1. Despite its relatively small footprint (just 20 cm wide) it is a classic expression of Naim amplifier engineering, delivering 50W per channel (into 8 ohms) for an expansive and dynamic performance, bursting with trademark Naim rhythm and clarity.
David unleashes a new single from his new record coming out in March. His first in ten years!
Look what just showed up! Shahinian Obelisk 2 in walnut, on the way!
The new Rega Apollo-R CD Player showed up today! I'm breaking it in with the Brio-R and some Roky Erickson! The new Apollo-R is a total reworking using technologies from the flagship Isis CD player and DAC. Plays great by itself, or give it a shot of steroids with the matching DAC. $1095.
Immediately after finding out the new Dynavector electronics were shipping, I made a call to Vasken Shahinian about ordering up some Obelisk. Why? They are one of THE speakers to use with Dynavector. The design fundamentals are quite different from your average speaker. It is the only poly / omnidirectional speaker on the market. For those of you who like the sound of planar type speakers, but dislike the size and drop out of sound if you move from the sweet spot, come hear 'em!
The Obelisk was the first Shahinian produced way back in 1977. Shahinians are hand made on Long Island in Medford, New York by Richard and his son Vasken. I hope to have this exceptional system humming in the very near future! I'm beyond excited folks! This is a day I have longed for, for almost 20 years! Yes, I've been doing a lot of waiting for this system! I've never heard this combo, but from what I've read and the people I respect who have heard it, I'm seriously stoked. Now, Texans will have the chance to hear one of the "Holy Grails" of Hi-Fi!! A Dynavector / Shahinian / Well Tempered system.
After a loooooooong (like, seven years) wait, I am happy to announce that the Dynavector range is now available! Dynavector Australia are now shipping a new power amp called the HX100 and two pre amps, L200 & L300. The excellent P-75 phono pre got a face lift to match the new gear. Whetstone Audio will have the first US offerings. They are on their way to me NOW! Yes! Actual physical gear! It was a long wait but I can assure you it was worth it. More info. to come and of course a Hootenanny with Toffco's Mike Pranka. Stay Tuned!
I just ordered tickets for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers! They're playing The Frank Irwin Center on May 5th. My kids actually said, "Who's Tom Petty?" I would have failed as a parent if I didn't score the overly inflated tickets. I remember seeing Tom Petty and The Replacements opened for $20!! Whatever. You only live once. All the greats are dying off. Kids need to experience real Rock & Roll so they can carry it on. Here's some education:
We lost another great today.
By popular demand, I just ordered up some DeVore 3XL, with matching stands, in the sultry mink finish. Also coming in the near future are the new Gibbon 88, that replace the Super Eights (which I have on sale). John DeVore is now building his speakers out of bamboo, so no rain forests were stripped. All DeVore cabinets and stands are manufactured right next door at Anthony Abbate's BOX Furniture.in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
I barely do. I'm not sure what the purpose was or how it worked. Who was going to bring it home and actually use it like that?
Here's a nice pic of the new DeVore 0/96 Orangutan. That's 96db! Sensitive enough to make low powered amps scream! There will likely be a 0/93 version as well which I will be getting in ASAP.
Charlie Louvin died from pancreatic cancer yesterday. He was 83.
That's right folks! The beautiful Leben RS-30EQ moving magnet phono pre is on the floor. As with many Leben products, these are usually spoken for before they're built! No mass production here! All hand soldered point to point... and that new Leben smell? MMM! Nothing like it! Reminds be of sniffing those mimeograph worksheets in middle school back in the 80's.
Got some more booze for the shop! Texas made Enchanted Rock Vodka! Centenario 100% Agave has got to be the smoothest Anejo Tequila I've ever had. Made for sippin'! No training wheels needed. Makers Mark... crucial.
The black Rega DAC I had flew out the door, so I got in a silver one. There aren't many pics on the net of it in Silver, so here you go..
Here's the new Dynavector 20X2-H (H is for high output moving coil. Also available in a low output). I just put her on the Rega P5 turntable. Playing through the LFD phono pre amp which is made specifically for high output moving coils. In a word... stunning!
Olive is our Blue Lacy, The State Dog Of Texas!! She's actually quite sweet. The kids were probably tormenting her.
I'm pleased to announce the arrival of the first of several offerings from the Danish speaker company DALI. I just got in the Lektor 2 bookshelves. WOW! Huge sound from a tiny speaker. Front ported for a true bookshelf design. I'm happy to say that in my quest for good value and outstanding sound, the Lektor 2 is a shoe in for my entry level speaker at just $475 a pair!
I'm going to New York City!!! This is the first vacation without kids that my wife and I have taken in 7 years!! While I'm there, I'll be attending John DeVore's Monkeyhaus! A tour of the DeVore factory and hopefully Box Furniture. I'm also gonna kick it with Steve Mishoe at his shop In Living Stereo. I will be posting highlights of the trip here later. If you know of some cool places I should check out, let me know!
I'm always reachable by cell 512-784-8282 and by email firstname.lastname@example.org

It's been a long wait but Derek Gilligan has been working around the clock to get the X2 on the streets. I'm taking PRE ORDERS NOW. Half down and I'll order you some. The X2 will be $2495 in your choice of finish. Walnut, Cherry, Rosewood or Sycamore. Whetstone Audio is the only venue for Kudos Loudspeakers in the US at this time. Dealers please contact me if you want to pick up Kudos for your shop. If you don't know, Kudos are a small Loudspeaker company from Durham, England and go VERY well with most brands, most notably with Naim. They use the highest quality drivers including the Seas Excel and Crescendo tweeters.
Heres a pic of the X2 and C-20.
